Pasture-Raised Chicken FAQ

1. What makes your pasture-raised chicken special?

Our chickens are raised on open pasture and grown at a natural pace with real outdoor access. That means better texture, richer flavor, and a more “real chicken” experience than typical store-bought birds.

2. How are your chickens raised?

Our chickens live on open pasture at Little G Ranch in Texas. They scratch for bugs, peck at fresh grass, and spend their days outdoors in the sunshine.

3. Are your chickens given antibiotics or hormones?

We do not use growth hormones. Antibiotics are not used routinely. If a bird becomes sick and requires treatment, animal welfare comes first.

4. What do your chickens eat?

They forage naturally on pasture and are supplemented with a locally milled, non-GMO feed. This balance supports healthy birds and great flavor.

5. How does pasture-raised chicken taste compared to grocery store chicken?

Most customers notice a deeper, more savory chicken flavor and a firmer, more satisfying texture. Pasture access and slower growth contribute to that “old-school chicken” taste.

6. Do you process your chickens on site?

Our chickens are processed in a small USDA-inspected facility with strict standards for cleanliness and humane care.

7. Are your chickens air chilled or water chilled?

Our chickens are air chilled. This helps preserve natural flavor and avoids added water—so you’re paying for chicken, not extra moisture.

8. Is your chicken free-range or pasture-raised?

Our chickens are pasture-raised, meaning they have regular outdoor access to roam and forage. “Free-range” can mean many different things depending on the producer.

9. What’s the difference between white and dark meat?

White meat (breasts and wings) is leaner and mild. Dark meat (thighs and drumsticks) is juicier and more flavorful. Both are delicious—the “best” one depends on how you like to cook.

10. How should I cook pasture-raised chicken?

Cook gently and avoid overcooking—pasture-raised chicken can be leaner than supermarket chicken. Roasting, braising, grilling, and slow cooking all work great depending on the cut.

11. Can I freeze your chicken?

Yes. Our chicken is vacuum sealed and can be frozen for up to 12 months for best quality.

12. Is your chicken suitable for special diets?

Many customers choose our chicken as a clean, simple protein option. Dietary needs vary, so we recommend enjoying it in a way that fits your preferences and nutrition goals.

13. Why does your chicken cost more than grocery store chicken?

Pasture-based farming takes more land, more labor, and more time. We choose quality-focused practices and careful handling over mass production. The result is better flavor and a more thoughtfully raised bird.

14. Do you sell whole chickens or just cuts?

We offer both whole chickens and cuts like breasts, thighs, wings, and drumsticks (availability can vary).

15. How do I store fresh chicken from Wanted Raw Foods?

Keep refrigerated at 40°F or below and use within 3 to 5 days. For longer storage, freeze right away.
